The Research Station was founded by Neil Kumar as a base for visual research, treatment writing and creative pitching.
Before founding The Research Station Neil worked in research for five years at Gorgeous.
Upon leaving film school Neil found himself gardening (not a metaphor) for director Frank Budgen. Witnessing first-hand Neil's ability in areas pertaining towards film and not just horticulture, Frank began taking Neil on jobs as a creative and technical assistant. Duties included image, film and music research, shooting and editing pre-production tests, writing treatments, on-set editing and any number of more banal tasks not worth mentioning here.
After his stint with Frank, Neil joined Gorgeous full-time and was soon made Head of Research, handling the creative pitches for all Gorgeous' directors. He worked in this role with 'great zeal and aplomb' (not Neil's words entirely) until he decided it was time to move on and start a concern dedicated entirely to visual research, treatment writing and creative pitching.
"Neil was our secret weapon."
Paul Rothwell (Managing Director and Partner, Gorgeous, 1997-2013)
